Message-ID: <3c59441194.411943c594@ncf.ca> I'm still collecting some materials that will provide the future PG- Canada with rules for public-domain clearances under the current Copyright Act, AND -- importantly, the pre-1924 law. I've got most of the relevant statutes, and a number of the leading cases, already collected, with a few more to trickle in. I can provide a legal bibliography for anyone who's interested. I'm also continuing with some bibliographical research, including a long-term project in AMICUS, and a short-term back-of-envelope project using O'Dea's Newfoundland Bibliography. There are a frustratingly large number of authors with difficult-to- determine death dates. Any updates from anyone else on the technical or other fronts? Let's get moving... The first cut of the site won't handle nXML source, but we can do a manual conversion to HTML. jen. In addition, we may also have some access to new scanners of a similar type at the U of IL and other sites, if your concerns about mailing 35mm materials might be an issue. We are legally able to use any two-dimensional picture we can get of an two-dimensional artwork in which copyrights in the original work precede 1923. I would very much like to include more artwork, music and other media in the various Project Gutenberg libraries. Thank you so much!!! Michael S. Can it take, or can it be jerry-rigged to take, 35 or 16 mm spools? Or microfiche? > I would very much like to include more artwork, music and > other media in the various Project Gutenberg libraries. In the "other media" category... manuscript material would rock! "Distributed Transcription", anyone? I should think that any film that could be put into a slide would work, so 35mm spools could work, though I would ask a local expert about the copying process so the original could be preserved. There are also adaptors for 35mm mountings for 16mm film, so I think those could also be used. >> I would very much like to include more artwork, music and >> other media in the various Project Gutenberg libraries. > > In the "other media" category... manuscript material would > rock! "Distributed Transcription", anyone? No reason not to. Thanks!!! Message-ID: <7d574597050922210710e7f029@mail.gmail.com> http://www.gutenbergcanada.org Pretty raw, as you see, but we can upload, categorize, browse and search for texts. The site is powered by Drupal, an open-source content management system. It's very easy to do most administrative tasks, like write content, upload files, add new categories, etc. I'd like volunteers to take over: - PG Canada organizational content: We need content similar to Project Gutenberg - who we are, how to contact us, terms of use, etc. - Site styling: It's ugly. But it's just simple CSS, no rocket science, so anybody with an eye for design and a little CSS knowledge can handle it. - Content management: It's very simple to upload content, create categories, etc. I'd like someone else to manage that effort. - PHP scripting: There are lots of places where a little PHP coding would make the site experience a lot nicer. - Logo: Gardner, could you make a version with a transparent background please? Volunteers, please stick up your hands and I'll create an account for you. The old wiki content might be useful for various things: http://www.jenzed.com/pgcawiki/pmwiki.php jen.
