Many thanks to my very good friend Peter Barnes for offering this one. 
For those wishing to know: it's a classic of railway literature and Peter 
can explain that far better than I can.  Sir Arthur Heywood built his own 
railway on his estate - the plates at the end of the book give an idea of 
what it was like.
