This is not really an answer, but

is an article about Vanity Fair from 1914-1936
It gives a list of writers in the early Vanity Fair.
Mr. Crue is not in the list. It may be that he/she was not sufficiently
important, or it may be a nom de plume.
Possibly, the writer of the article might have some information.
