[Trdma-l] Id'ing dogs

Although I'm using tags riveted to the dog's collars, mine list only MY name
and phone number. I don't want a stranger knowing my dog's name and thus
having the control over the dog that comes with knowing it's name. In
addition to being tagged, all of my dogs are microchipped. To my way of
thinking it is cheap enough to pay for peace of mind.

Thank you all for taking good care of your dogs and looking out for the
wayward.

Swanny

I would like to stress what Carol said--it is completely frustrating and
very sad at the Shelter to have animals come in, take up a space for a few
days until their owner finds them, do a euth list that contains some
adoptable animals, then have the strays get redeemed. It happens all the
time and esp. on holidays when it is full and animals keep coming in, but
due to the closure, are not going out. And invariably, someone walks in and
says "why was so and so euthed, there are a bunch of empty cages?"

If the dog is Id'd the finder can call the owner and bypass the trip to the
shelter entirely.

That said, tags come off. Until I had my own sled dogs I did not realize
how quickly these guys go through tags, even good quality stainless or brass
tags. Even though my dogs are not on chains very much at all, they still
went through tags until I found out about boomerang
tags--www.boomerangtags.com

The tags that fit around the collar are really durable and don't readily
come off. They are not very expensive and I think you can even order them
with all the same imprint for a discount if you don't mind that the animal's
names won't be on them.

Shelter is really full, esp the dog yard, if you do lose a dog, please go in
right away to look for it. Ok, enough--now watch one of mine escape and
lose their tag! Happy New Year everyone. Ronnie
