Don, Leslie and I took 5 dogs from the shelter today (a 6th that went with us seems to have a few other medical problems...).
Hansel and Gretyl may be littermates although one came in as a stray and the other was in the drop off cages. They are very young dogs maybe just a year old.
Hansel (ID# 1-22-1 House C) is a bigger boy with a ton of energy. He almost wanted to go in the team and I think he has great potential if someone has a bit of patience and time to work with him. He is a friendly, happy boy.

Gretyl (ID#1-22-2 House B) is a bit shy but a mellow very sweet smaller female. She too, almost wanted to go but decided against it.....I don't think either of these dogs have been in harness.

BISCUIT #1-18-1 House F....Bisuit is 2 years old. She is very friendly and happy and gets along with other dogs. She might be allergic to straw or be hypothyroid (which is REALLY cheap to treat) as her belly and legs are a very burnt red color and she is a bit itchy. But it didn't affect her running. She LOVED to go. She is a driven dog that has an excellent gait. We put her in lead with Chip (see below) on the way back and she was excellent. This dog has tremendous potential in a mid distance to distance team. An all around nice girl. She weighs around 50 pounds.

CHIP #1-23-2 HOUSE G. Chip is a neutered male pointer mix...black and white with a longer coat than most pointer mixes. He looks almost exactly like the pointer mix that I have had for 10 years and is one of my main leaders (Robin). He is 5 years old and already neutered. He was inside at the shelter but seemed very depressed. When I took him out he seemed very sad but once we started harnessing and hooking up he was screaming HAPPY! This boy has a ton of drive, gets along with other dogs and also ran lead with Biscuit on the way back. He is a bit short gaited but has good speed and was hard on the line the whole time. I put him out in the dog yard when we got back and he was so happy...he started right away playing with Biscuit. Since he is neutered already you could take him home today!

SASHA #1-22-20 House I...Sasha is one year old...all white with blue eyes. A very pretty girl. She is a bit overweight and had never been in harness before. She was turned into the shelter because she was too active for her family. This dog just needed a job!!! She is very sweet. Loves hugs and kisses. She was chewing lines when we hooked her in and didn't really understand what we were doing until we said "let's go!" then that husky instinct kicked in and she hit the line and never looked back. She is not a fast dog and she got a bit tired in this fast team...but she would make a grea rec. dog for she is a hard worker and has a nice thick white coat. She loves to play fetch and comes when she is called. She could be a wonderful pet/skijor/mushing dog for an active family.
