[Trdma-l] Fw: new web site with Fairbanks shelter dogs

Hi Carol.  I really like your new website.  Very nicely done.  

 

If you would like to link to my site under "successes", the "Meet the
Stardancer Freight Dogs" page has four dogs that are GREAT success stories.
My entire little team of big dogs came from the shelter.  

 

It's going to be updated in a couple of weeks with two more dogs, that I am
being "gifted" from a musher in Dillingham.  I will probably either credit
the musher for providing the gift, or if I want to maintain the rescue dog
theme I'll credit the  "Hedlund husky preservation project".  The musher is
pretty sensitive and I'm trying to avoid the term "rescue" with him.  I have
no doubt that he will have other pups needing placement in the future and I
don't want to scare him away from making his pups available for adoption. 

 

 Technically this is probably more a placement than a rescue.  The musher
put these 8 month old pups in with a team of experienced dogs for a couple
of short runs with his father-in-law, described as "an old time dog man".
When they returned the father-in-law pointed to one pup and said "Keep him,
all the others would make a good pair of mittens."  Rather than make mittens
he offered them through folks involved with the Hedlund Husky preservation
project who turned me on to them.  The pups are of Hedlund / Forsberg lines.
I am adopting all three pups from him, but I can only keep two of them.  The
other will go to Miriam Cooper as a foster.  When we find a placement for
him I'll have him neutered at my own expense.  Part of a promise I made to
the original owner.

I'll bet you can find other "success stories" kennels to link to, (Miriam
Cooper comes to mind, and there is also the Long Haul Kennel in Salcha.  I
can't remember the very nice lady's name, sorry.

Here is my new web site.  We will keep it updated with additional pictures
of the shelter dogs as we run them and interact with them.  Go to "Dogs" to
see the pictures. 

The 6 dogs that we ran today are here in harness.
