Animal Control generally is not staffed to pick up non-threatening strays on
Sundays. Generally you will get the after-hours operator. So hopefully
someone will see this message and respond. Although tomorrow is Columbus
Day, the shelter should be open and an officer would be able to come for the
animal (--the borough holiday this month is Alaska Day, not until the 18th).
Also, the after-hours cages are open 24/7 for drop-off.
It would be great to be able to offer full services on nights and Sundays,
but the 6th officer position was eliminated a few years ago and has not been
restored. When it comes time for planning the budget for the new fiscal
year for animal control, restoration of this position is probably only going
to happen if the community demands it and shows support at the Assembly
meetings. Ronnie
