These from Eric Troyer's Trails Quarterly newsletter:
TRAIL WORK PLANNED IN CHENA RIVER REC AREA
If you plan to use the Granite Tors or Stiles Creek trails this summer,
remember that there will be trail crews doing maintenance work along the
trails. The non-motorized Granite Tors Trail will get about 250 new
boardwalk planks to replace ones damaged by wear and tear. The 15-mile
loop trail will also get about 50 new trail signs. A four-mile section
of the Stiles Creek Trail, a 16-mile multi-use trail, will be rerouted
from boggy lowlands to higher ground. Also, the first mile of trail from
the trailhead at Mile 31.6 will be hardened using fractured rock and gravel.
TRAIL ALONG CHENA HOT SPRINGS ROAD TO BE DISCUSSED
The FNSB Trails Advisory Commission (TAC) will be discussing the Glacier
State Trail at its June 10 meeting. The trail, also known as the Chena
Hot Springs Road Trail, runs along Chena Hot Springs Road from Curry's
Corner on the Old Steese Highway to the state Chena River Recreation
Area. Some advocates for the trail, including Bev Nester, claim that
parts of the trail are in need of repair and improvement. They would
like to see a big show of support for the trail, so if you use the trail
consider attending. For more on the trail and TAC meeting you can
contact Bev (happytrail2u at mosquitonet.com
<mailto:happytrail2u at mosquitonet.com>) or Borough Trails Coordinator Tom
Hancock (459-7401; thancock at co.fairbanks.ak.us
<mailto:thancock at co.fairbanks.ak.us>).
The meeting will start at 6 pm in the Blue Room on the 3^rd
floor of the Alaska Centennial Center for the Arts Building at Pioneer
Park.
