Thanks to a bunch of people that came out to help run 2 teams of shelter
dogs today! It was great to have all the help. (Don, Lisa, Sharon, Darren,
Brian)

If you are interested in a dog NOW is the time to get one. The backyard at
the shelter is totally full. There is no room for any more huskies that
come in so some hard decisions will be made by the shelter staff as to what
dogs stay and what dogs will have to be euthanized. So, hopefully we can
find some homes for a few dogs and free up some space.
Thanks.

KHABA #4-23-5 House B She was run a couple of weeks ago but we put her back
in the team today. We started her off in lead and she does a very good job.
She is not a fast dog, but puts her head down and goes. She is on the shy
side but never flinches in running up front. It was an interesting team
because we had another dog that was in full blown heat (she is being adopted
through SCL by a wonderful couple from Oregon who helped out today) and all
the boys were a bit crazy. But Khaba is all business. She is a 2 year old
with a promising future.

LOKI #5-12-5 House M. He was in this first team and being a young intact
male was a bit distracted with amorous feelings. He started out nicely in
wheel but didn’t so as well as we moved him up. He has some minor
chiropractic problems that has caused him to chew his fur a bit but the area
chiropractic vet came and checked him out. He is also a heavy “spinner” on
his chain so would do best if not chained up. This would help his neck
issues. He has quite a bit of wear on his neck from an ill fitting collar
but given some freedom and a new collar the fur should grow back. He is a
larger boy, black, brown, white with blue eyes. He is very friendly. He will
probably do better when he is neutered and gets another year of maturity.
He is 2 years old. An all around sweet boy.

TURBO #5-13-15 House N. Turbo along with Marc and Big Boy were crammed into
one crate and flown in from one of the villages. Needless to say, these
boys were pretty traumatized when they got to the shelter several days ago.
But they have settled in and are all nice dogs. Turbo is a yearling. A
traditional brown husky around 40 pounds but is fairly thin. He would do
best in a slower rec team. He has good drive and a good gait when loping.
He does tend to pace when he breaks into a trot. He too was very interested
in the flirting girl so didn’t want to run lead with her behind him.

MARC #5-13-14 House P. He is a very animated sweet boy with a ton of
energy. He is on the small side and has good speed. We were probably going
a tad bit too slow for him. He is only 2 years old. A very driven boy who
loves to run. An all around great worker. Mostly grey/white. He has a ton
of potential. Everyone really liked this dog.

That was our first team (with one of my leaders and the in heat dog that is
adopted)
We tried all the dogs in lead but they were too interested in what was
behind them to really concentrate on what they were doing.

The second team consisted of my 2 leaders and 3 shelter dogs.

HANDSOME #5-13-9 House H. This guy is a LOVE. Big and goofy and only 7
months old. It said that he was harness broken but I bet he was only in
harness once. He loves everyone. I love this pup. He is HUGE. He will be
a very large dog. He has big feet and a big head with large pointy ears.
Hopefully he will grow into his body. In this team we were just going too
fast for him. He started out OK but with his age and his inexperience we
decided to take him out of the team so that we wouldn’t have to slow down
the others too much.

BIG BOY #5-13-15 House O. He is a 3 year old husky/English pointer mix. He
is all black. This boy is shy. He is very hand shy and will pancake when
you pet him over the head. But, in the team this guy is all business. He
is one of these dogs that you just plug in and go. He doesn’t have top end
sprint speed but has a nice gait. With a gentle hand he will go a long way.

ENVA #5-7-18 House E. This girl was found at the top of Ester Dome as a
stray and no one has claimed her. This does amaze me as she is excellent.
She is older. Maybe between 6 and 8 years by looking at her teeth. But she
knows ALL the ropes. She is a very driven girl that is a tad bit shy but
just blossoms in a team. We put her in lead and she was superb. She is red
with blue eyes. On the small side she would do great for a mid-distance
team or training younger dogs. An all around nice girl.
