Here in the states, it's difficult to get the libraries interested, partly because they really don't know what to do with the discs. I would love it if we could get some discs manufactured and screen printed, put into a joule-case, and professionally printed, so that we could sell them at cost (which is permitted under the license) to libraries and schools. I think that that's the only way we could get them widely accepted. Re the ones I have been give to the library it just started When I gave them a couple of sets. After they looked at them they just started asking for more. I know them well as I was teaching a free computer course there for a few years and know the staff well. I am thinking it may get out of hand if I keep supplying them.but they do not have any burning equipment. What do you think? Will the new DVD replace the the present DVD & CD. Will we still send out the old Discus. I have a less 80 of each still in stock and getting requests from our local library here for at less 10 per week. These will not show up on the main list. Is this OK to provide them with these discus direct from me . here in Australia. Could we give the new DVD a special identification or just use the date the DVD was made Regards Ray Rivett Australia.

Distributing the new PG DVD

We have a policy of providing only one DVD per person. However, once the new image is available, it is highly likely that many of those who received the first DVD will want to request a copy of the second DVD. How would you like us to deal with this situation? One issue relates to the request tracking database. It automatically rejects a second request from the same e-mail address. If we allow someone who received the first DVD to request the second DVD, we will need to allow an additional request record that is submitted on or after the announcement date. John Hagerson

You can now refer them to http://snowy.arsc.alaska.edu/cgi-bin/cdproject/dvdstatus.cgi . If their request is flagged, waiting for checkout, or checked out, it tells them how many people are ahead of them and how many discs we've been processing per week. This last number is based on the number of check ins over the last 10 weeks/10. It also divides the number ahead of them by the average per week and gives that to them as the number of weeks they should expect to wait. If someone looks up a request that has been already mailed, it tells them that and tells them not to contact us about it until 30 days after it was sent. Of course, I was a little more tactful than that, but that's the idea. Feel free to check it out and let me know if you see things that need tweaked or changed.
