Hello all, I was just wondering how many folks out their belong to this list and actively read the email accounts that are listed. I hear we used to have a bunch of folks that were willing to help send out CDs and DVDs but I have not had the occasion to chat with most of you. We would love to hear from you again. We still have a number of request in the queue that we have not been able to fill yet and any assistance you guys feel like providing would be much appreciated. Rumor is that an updated edition of the DVD is on the way so it would be a great time to clear out any dusty copies of the current editions and get them in the hands of a few folks without reliable internet access. Of course when the new copy is out we will need folks to help with distribution if they decide to continue using the torrent system as one of the distribution methods. If some little thing is preventing you from helping out let us know so we can all work to make a better system. Of course if other interest have consumes all of your time I understand that as well. I Just want to let everyone know that we do still need your assistance if you have a few moment to help out while it is cold enough to keep most of us inside for a few more weeks. If you have a particular area that you like to work with please let us know so we can leave those request for you as we work to fill the other request in the system. If you guys are still out their I would love to hear from you! Johnnie
I've forgotten how to do any of the distribution. Could you provide a primer or a link to a primer so I can get back up to speed? Hello, Most of it is on the website page: http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Gutenberg:DVD_Project_Volunteering Visit the request tracking database: http://snowy.arsc.alaska.edu/cgi-bin/cdproject/dvdlogin.cgi Checkout a list of addresses from the system. Label the envelope (the system will export if you do not wish to write the label), fill it with 2 DVDs or CDs depending on the request (mostly DVD) insert a copy of the about us letter attach a customs form it it is international (I print these as my handwriting is horrid), and take the batch off to the post office. Easy as pie it just takes time to duplicate the DVDs and stop by the post office. The DVDs are usually duplicating while I have to sit at my desk anyway and they get stuffed and when I don't really feel like doing anything but wasting time in front of the TV. It gives me an excuse to waste time and feel like I am still accomplishing something productive that does not require concentration. I can forward the letters and stuff if you like you just have to find your old userid to gain access to the database. Let me know if you are willing to help us out and you need the letters or something. Of course you can also ask the folks that read the project email at cd2010@pglaf.org <cd2010_AT_pglaf.org> Johnnie johnniecd@gmail.com On Sat, Feb 13, 2010 at 11:21 AM, Mark Shellenberger < mshellenberger@gmail.com> wrote:
