[Fwd: Problems on downloaded dvd.]
Dear Mr. Parker, Thanks for your offer to help with the DVD. I'm sorry for the problems you had with it but I'm glad you were able to fix them. We're always interested in posting improved versions of our releases, and I'm certain that this will be no exception. I'm CCing Greg Newby, as he is generally the person who makes most decisions regarding updates of this kind. We will soon be creating a new set of disc images and your feedback is invaluable. I'll definitely watch out for the case of filenames. Thanks again for your help. Sincerely Aaron Cannon

Hello,
I'm not sure who I should contact about this problem but I hope you will be able to refer me to who I need to contact.
I have downloaded the dvd image pgdvd.iso on to my computer which runs Debian/GNU/Linux, a UNIX compatible operating system.
I am unable to access the ebooks using the index files on the disc because the ebook files are recorded on the system using lowercase names but most of the hyperlinks in the index files are written using mixed case names. This does not matter in a system running Windows but breaks in all unix compatible systems. I guess that would include Apple Macs running OSX as well as all of the various flavours of Linux and BSD.
That's the bad news. The good news is that I have written a couple of programs to correct these problems, and have done so on my copy of the downloaded dvd iso file.
I would like to help out in correcting the indexing problems. I can do this by either making the reworked dvd image available. I would have to snail mail a the dvd because hosting a 4 gig iso anywhere is out of my reach. Alternatively I would make the programs available in source code form, under GPL License.
I look forward to hearing from you.

I'm just adding my thanks, Bob. The issue you found is one of several I'm aware of. This will be fixed in our next CD & DVD releases. It turned out the person who created the image used a Windows box, and I tested on my Mac before pushing it to our Unix/Linux servers. The OS X filesystem, HFS+, is not case sensitive (though some of the BSD/Unix tools on it are. It's a weird mix.) -- Greg Newby
