BB: i'm starting a little list for myself, of the options
that our conversion program should offer users,
and i decided i should make it public so that if
any of you have suggestions, you can inform us.

The implication of this list is the assumption that the items on the list are simply “sugar” to be sprinkled on the top of a transcription or not as the want desires.  People who have actually done the transcriptions will realize that many of these items are not in fact distinct from transcription decisions but rather are part and parcel of the transcription decisions, and thus cannot be so factored – at least not without a real loss in the integrity of the transcription -- meaning that which the customer reads is not what the author wrote and the publisher published.

Transcription does not in general “simply” entail fixing scannos.
