It's from Apple... you expected more? Historically they've always released products with proprietary implementations, to ensure everyone comes back to the same trough for more. This is no different from an iPod or an iPhone or a MacBook Air from a vendor lock-in and entry-level technology perspective. Nothing revolutionary to see here.. They'll use it as a vehicle to drive more traffic through the AppStore.
