jim has actually posted a reworking of "aesop", but nobody has said it's part of the contest yet.
And I'm not claiming its part of any contest. I am simply trying to point out the "reality" that when PG/DP doesn't provide the product that customers want the ONLY result is that customers end up getting their stuff from other websites. Even though PG/DP did 99% of the work, and now is continuing to go in a direction such PG/DP doesn't get the credit, AND doesn't get the volunteer workers they need to continue to do the good work. The PG "Terms of Use" say I don't have to keep waiting for you guys to get your act together. I can just go do it myself on my own website. "The Real World" is crying for quality kf8 product, just like 5 years ago "The Real World" was crying for mobi product, and when it takes 5+ years for you guys to respond to a product need, then you are putting *yourself* "out of the running." Will the world having yet another "new and exciting" thing in 5 years, like EPUB3 maybe? Probably. And at that point in time the world will have been waiting *10* years for PG/DP to get its act together and provide working EPUB2 and MOBI7 files -- let alone kf8 (mobi8) and EPUB3 files. That's not something *I'm* doing -- rather that is something you are continuing to do to yourself. Does "The Real World" care that a PG book has half a dozen scannos? No, Not really. Does "The Real World" care that that PG/DP book looks like scrambled eggs on that fancy $199 device they just bought for Xmas? Yes they do, actually. And they can go get that same "PG" book for the same price formatted more attractively elsewhere. Because the PG terms of use says they can.
