I agree for rotating normal illustrations to make them vertical in the web version.  The problem I have with doing this for these wide diagrams is that would make them pretty much unreadable on the Kindle and Nook.  Leaving them with their original orientation would make the Kindle version much more usable.
 
I'm going to do my best with the text versions using the <pre> tag and see how that looks on the Kindle.  If that doesn't work I'll do illustrations.  I'll make all the illustrations vertical.  If that doesn't work out well I'll rotate them back for the Kindle Store version.  I really do want this book to look good on the Kindle straight from PG.
