I'm pretty happy with the way the web page came out.  To get a decent looking Kindle book I redid the <spans> (which Kindlegen ignores) with non-breaking spaces.  Yuck, I know, but I think the results justified it.  The nice thing about non-breaking spaces is that it is clear when a line wraps to the next line and should be read as one line.  With blockquotes the line is split into two lines and it is not clear what the poet's intention was.
