jim, you're way too little, and way too late to boot... the wolf-pack tried that shell-game a long time ago. "there might be problems," they continually insisted, one time after another, trying to chip at what i'd said, raising the stakes in our little credibility poker game... i said nothing at first, so they kept repeating the claim, until they had bet their entire pool of credibility on it... so they eventually convinced themselves entirely that i couldn't do the things i was claiming that i could do. even though, when you think about it, it becomes very clear that this is a really stupid thing to be asserting... it's like betting a person about what is in their pocket. they _know_ what's in their pocket; you can only guess. so it's just ludicrous to bet them what is in their pocket. but they didn't just bet, they staked all their credibility. so at that point, i started revealing my cards, and they came to realize that i could indeed do what i'd claimed. they knew they were in trouble, so they pulled out the "it might make a difference" card you're trying to play. "it might", i agreed. "so why don't you show me some real books where it actually _does_ make a difference?" at that point, they knew they were sunk. yeah, oh sure, they coulda pulled out a book that'd been done in latex, for instance, or one where the producer used finale to handle some musical scores, or assorted other weirdos. but they knew as well as i knew as well as everyone knows that the vast majority of the p.g. library is plain old books, filled with plain old justified paragraphs on plain old pages, so that the occasional freakish book is nothing more than the exception that proves the rule... so they just shut up, the better to pretend that they hadn't heard what i'd said. but you, jim? you don't have any credibility to lose, so i have no need to string you along, so i'm just going to call your bluff now... it is not enough to say there "might" be problems caused by the different "rendering engines" that various apps use. _so_show_us_some_real_cases_from_actual_books,_jim._ cases where, given the same .mobi file, a hardware kindle and the various software kindle-apps display it differently in a way that is substantial, in any way that is meaningful. it easy to say "it _might_ happen". show us where it _does_. and -- depending on how many examples you show us -- we will judge how serious the problem is, in the real world, and not just in the frightened imagination of one old man... put up or shut up, jim. it's that simple. -bowerbird p.s. this is the second time i've called this bluff of yours. but i guess you pretended not to hear me the first time... everyone else, though, can hear me loudly and clearly, so they know when you're dodging a bullet you can't handle.
