I will buy a Kindle (or similar device) when its book collection is DRM free, and not before. I suspect I am not the only one in this position, and I imagine it is hurting Amazon's sales. I want to buy books, not rent them. I have no interest in amassing a book collection in a proprietary format which may not be around in 40 years, and from which I have no legal right to convert. ~P.
