Sorry, but dropping in a couple hooks to a text to speech engine doesn't make a program accessible.
i appreciate your input, aaron. making software that blind people can use, and use well, is a challenge for which i don't have much expertise, that's for sure... which e-book programs do you find are particularly effective for you? specifically, how is adobe acrobat? mobipocket? e-reader? ms-reader? if i can learn anything from those apps, or from anything that you can tell me, do please let me know. thank you... otherwise, i'm operating in the dark here. Actually, in my experience, most of those programs are inaccessible. Adobe is the exception however.

Well, all of your menus are accessible through the normal keystrokes. The problem is that the book itself is not readable. If you could put the text of the book in an edit type field, and cause the down arrow key to move down one line at a time, you might (and I stress might) solve it. The trick is to have some sort of cursor that is on the first line of the page. Then, when the down arrow is pressed, it moves down one line. When it reaches the bottom of the screen, the text should scroll up to show the next line of text. That's one way of doing it. Also, note that when I say edit field, I'm just referring to the class of the object (I think that's the correct terminology). It should of course be read only.
otherwise, i'm operating in the dark here.
