http://www.gutenbergcanada.org Pretty raw, as you see, but we can upload, categorize, browse and search for texts. The site is powered by Drupal, an open-source content management system. It's very easy to do most administrative tasks, like write content, upload files, add new categories, etc. I'd like volunteers to take over: - PG Canada organizational content: We need content similar to Project Gutenberg - who we are, how to contact us, terms of use, etc. - Site styling: It's ugly. But it's just simple CSS, no rocket science, so anybody with an eye for design and a little CSS knowledge can handle it. - Content management: It's very simple to upload content, create categories, etc. I'd like someone else to manage that effort. - PHP scripting: There are lots of places where a little PHP coding would make the site experience a lot nicer. - Logo: Gardner, could you make a version with a transparent background please? New 35mm Scanner Available

As you may recall, I have been pushing to include artwork in the various Project Gutenberg libraries, and thus I am encouraging this with a new scanner I just bought to scan 35mm negatives and slides. In addition, we may also have some access to new scanners of a similar type at the U of IL and other sites, if your concerns about mailing 35mm materials might be an issue. We are legally able to use any two-dimensional picture we can get of an two-dimensional artwork in which copyrights in the original work precede 1923. I'm still collecting some materials that will provide the future PG- Canada with rules for public-domain clearances under the current Copyright Act, AND -- importantly, the pre-1924 law. I've got most of the relevant statutes, and a number of the leading cases, already collected, with a few more to trickle in. I can provide a legal bibliography for anyone who's interested. I'm also continuing with some bibliographical research, including a long-term project in AMICUS, and a short-term back-of-envelope project using O'Dea's Newfoundland Bibliography. There are a frustratingly large number of authors with difficult-to- determine death dates. Any updates from anyone else on the technical or other fronts? Let's get moving...
