An example of why care must be taken with reference sources: PUBLICATION: The Telegram (St. John's) DATE: 2005.03.16 SECTION: News PAGE: A8 BYLINE: Stacey, Jean Edwards ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- Well-known lawyer dead at 102 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- There's a funny story about Edmund Joseph Phelan, the retired St. John's lawyer and former St. Bon's hockey great, who died Friday at age 102. In the Encyclopedia of Newfoundland and Labrador, it appears he passed away at age 69. Next to his name is the notation 1902-1971. "We had a grand laugh about that," says his niece, Carolyn (Carrie) Graham.
