A Canadian volunteer has prepared many Lucy Maud Montgomery books which are still copyrighted in the United States and they have been posted at Project Gutenberg of Australia. Look here: http://gutenberg.net.au/plusfifty.html It does contain the two books you mention. If you really want to work on these two books, you are welcome to download the files and read through them, keeping an eye open for the occasional errors that always slip by. Lucy Maud Montgomery's books are not all public domain in the U.S. but I think they are in Canada and Australia, etc.
