Treatment of the Cholera in the Royal Hospital, Haslar, by John Wilson 67041 [Subtitle: during the months of July and August, 1849] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/6/7/0/4/67041 ] [Files: 67041-0.txt; 67041-h.htm] For those wishing to know: Dr. Wilson worked with the cholera patients in the hospital in 1849 and made notes on what happened. Whilst cholera by this stage was well-known, they didn't know how it spread nor how to treat it, although as Wilson notes some cases treatments appeared to work better than others. All the best, David, Rather damp England

Address to the Inhabitants of Rugby about the Cholera Morbus, by Arnold 67040 [Author: Thomas Arnold] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/6/7/0/4/67040 ] [Files: 67040-0.txt; 67040-h.htm] For those wishing to know: in 1831 cholera was spreading in England and causing panic, as they didn't know how it spread, how to stop it, and many of those getting it were dead within 48 hours. At Rugby School, the headmaster, Thomas Arnold, wrote what little he knew to the townsfolk as together they prepared for the worst. All the best, David, Damp England

On the inaccuracies which probably exist in the census returns of ages 67037 [Author: Thomas A. Welton] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/6/7/0/3/67037 ] [Files: 67037-0.txt; 67037-h.htm] For those wishing to know: a statistian taking a look at the 1861 / 1871 census in England and pointing out things that don't look right. It's not easy to follow and there are lots of assumptions which lead to large table which then are further processed. In a week's time we get the 1921 census released so it's slightly currently relevant. All the best, David, England with clouds and strong winds

Plain Sermons preached at Archbishop Tenison's Chapel, Regent Street 67036 [Author: James Galloway Cowan] [Subtitle: Second Series] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/6/7/0/3/67036 ] [Files: 67036-0.txt; 67036-h.htm] For those wishing to know: another lot of sermons from an affluent church in London in the 1850's. Cowan wasn't University trained and so his sermons tended to take a different approach from the usual ones. He was very insistant on people practising the religion. All the best, David, Rainy England

All the best, David, Rainy England
