George Borrow's Second Tour in Wales, by T. C. Cantrill 62073 [Author: J. Pringle] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/6/2/0/7/62073 ] [Files: 62073-0.txt; 62073-h.htm] For those wishing to know: they short but invaluable Borrovian work, published in "Y Cymmrodor" in 1910, was the work of two geologists working in South Wales, who were interested in George Borrow's 1857 walking tour of Wales. Thanks to Borrow's biographer, Dr. William Ireland Knapp, they obtained a transcription of Borrow's notebook of the journey, and walked it themselves, filling in the blanks etc. All the best, David, England, now dark, but still warm

An Australian Ramble, by J. Ewing Ritchie 62069 [Subtitle: a Summer in Australia] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/6/2/0/6/62069 ] [Files: 62069-0.txt; 62069-h.htm] For those wishing to know: Ritchie was the editor of Christian World and was very involved in social issues. Believing that things were against the poor but able in England, he advocated emigration and visited places favoured for emigration, to speak to those there, and then report back to his readers. He has a easy style and the book is as much travel writing as an emigrant's guide. All the best, David, Overcast but very warm England

The Annual Report on the Health of the Parish of St. Mary Abbotts, 62066 [Title: The Annual Report on the Health of the Parish of St. Mary Abbotts, Kensington, during the year 1874] [Author: T. Orme Dudfield] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/6/2/0/6/62066 ] [Files: 62066-0.txt; 62066-h.htm] For those wishing to know: as Kensington, London, grew in population during the 19th century so did the sanitary issues. Medical officers were appointed and Kensington was very lucky to T. Orme Dudfield, who wrote this report, who was very good at his job and his reports were often held up a model for others. It's a mine of statistics but also there's reports on what was done during the year (such as fining for having a diseased cow carcase, vacination of children and the cleaning up of the Iron Foundry). All the best, David England, clouded over but warm, thunderstorms expected

Rules of the Western Grammar School, Brompton 62064 [Author: Western Grammer School, Brompton] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/6/2/0/6/62064 ] [Files: 62064-0.txt; 62064-h.htm] For those wishing to know: Around 1820 Brompton, London, was a small but growing area, with the middle classes moving in. They needed schools for their children, and with no national system available, they banded together and formed a new business: The Western Grammar School. Like all businesses their were shareholders and it was necessary to have rules and regulations = mainly saying how the shareholders were to be treated etc. There's actually very little about how the children were to be educated. All the best, David, Sunny England
