The Elder son Explained, and the Romish Church Exposed, by John Church 58539 [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/5/8/5/3/58539 ] [Files: 58539-0.txt; 58539-h.htm] For those wishing to know: an undated pamphlet from John Church preacher (1780-1833). Firstly his standard sermon using the parable of the prodigal son, and then a rather uncharacteristic bit about the Catholic church. All the best, David, Dampest England

Is this your likeness?, by John Church 58538 [Subtitle: A Scriptural Definition of Hypocrisy and Sincerity] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/5/8/5/3/58538 ] [Files: 58538-0.txt; 58538-h.htm] For those wishing to know: the (so far) last known sermon published in 1826 by John Church, preacher (1780-1833). It's more of a rant about the people he didn't like rather than an biblical exergesis. Unlike almost all the other sermons he's not described on the title page as a minister or similar. All the best, David, Damp England

It contains a religious account of the last few months of Samuel's life, written by his aunt Elizabeth Bonner. All the best, David, Dampest England

The Fall of Jerusalem, by John Church, junr. 58537 [Subtitle: A Poem] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/5/8/5/3/58537 ] [Files: 58537-0.txt; 58537-h.htm] For those wishing to know: a "jingling rhyme" poem by John Church junr. (1803-1853), son of John Church the preacher (1780-1833). Whilst it doesn't possess much literary merit, it does contain a list of subscribers (including his father) which is very useful for working out the social circle. The author records that his sweetheart (Caroline Bloodworth) said "she expected it would be sublimity itself". As they married four years after the poem was published, perhaps she adjusted her standards! All the best, David, Damp England PS. His full name is John William Church but he didn't use it in the book.

That evening John Church went and delivered this sermon to his congregation at the Surrey Tabernacle, where over 1,000 attended. All the best, David, Damp England with mists
