Mayow Wynell Mayow, Vicar of St. Mary the Boltons, Brompton, was invited by the Brighton Branch of the English Church Union to speak on a recent Church committee report that had suggested restraining Church of England ministers from dressing in rich vestments because of the complaints from the laity etc. Mayow believed it would become an attempt to rewrite the prayer book to force High Church ministers like himself out of the Church of England.
