Indexers note: The author of this book is named J. Harold Putman (not Putnam). The full Library of Congress authorized heading is "Putman, J. Harold (John Harold), 1866-1940". His name is spelled correctly in the title page transcription in the book text, but not in the Gutenberg header or the index files.
