The Romany Rye, by George Borrow 54048 [Editor: William Ireland Knapp] [Subtitle: A sequel to "Lavengro"] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/5/4/0/4/54048 ] [Files: 54048-0.txt; 54048-h.htm] For those wishing to know: this is generally treated as the "definitive" edition the second part of George Borrow's semi-autobiographical work (the first being known as Lavengro, which means "Word Master" in the Gypsy language). William Knapp was Borrow's first researcher and although he got a few things wrong, his knowledge of Borrow and his works was second to none, and his notes to this edition are invaluable. Knapp arranged for John Murray, the publisher and Borrow's friend, to add a few drawings of places related in the text, many of which look much the same today. All the best, David, Damp England but not too cold
