Thomas Sikes, vicar of Guilsborough, Northamptonshire in 1805, was a bit of a bigot, and held that not only was the Church of England the only true church, but that all other Christian denominations were "enemies", "wretches", etc. When Lord Teignmouth, the president of the newly-formed British and Foreign Bible Society wrote to the clergy of the Church of England, inviting them to become involved, Sikes went ballistic, because the Bible Society treated everyone equally, including Methodists, Baptists etc. Apparently Sikes was to be a major advisor to those forming the Oxford Movement (Tractarians) but died as they were coming to the attention of folk.
