Religion and Morality Vindicated against Hypocrisy and Pollution,by Bell 58555 [Author: Robert Bell] [Subtitle: or, an account of the Life and Character of John Church] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/5/8/5/5/58555 ] [Files: 58555-0.txt; 58555-h.htm] For those wishing to know: Robert Bell was the editor of the Weekly Dispatch, a London paper, when in 1813 he stumbled across a number of sexual scandals involving the popular preacher John Church (1780-1833). He also had a direct link from John Church to the Vere Street scandal (a homosexual brothel raided in 1810). Bell ran a series of articles in 1813 about this, his main rage being that someone so implicated was passing themselves off as a moral preacher. The newspaper was soon preventing from further disclosures as Church obtained a legal injunction: so Bell published the newspaper articles with a bit more stuff as this pamphlet. All the best, David England, damp and cold
