A History of Horncastle, by James Conway Walter 30358 [Subtitle: from the earliest period to the present time] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/3/0/3/5/30358 ] [Files: 30358.txt; 30358-0.txt; 30358-h.htm] For those wishing to know: lots of detail about Horncastle (in Lincolnshire, UK). Walter was a local man and a keen local historian so all sorts of odds and ends are in the book. I'd particularly like to draw attention to the deplorable behaviour of the Grammar School boys who "sometimes amused ourselves on the return journey by firing pistols, to disturb the inhabitants of houses near the canal" - educational standards have changed somewhat... All the best, David England, damp and dark
