Slater's [1859] Shropshire Directory, by Isaac Slater 60729 [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/6/0/7/2/60729 ] [Files: 60729-0.txt; 60729-h.htm] For those wishing to know: a few archives in England have this and give it a date of 1856, which is certainly when Isaac Slater and his staff were compiling it. However, no printed edition has been found bearing that date, but the text is identical to that published in a 1859 collection by Slater. It was part of a whole series of directories, each county separately number, presumably so you only needed to buy the ones that covered your area of interest. It's an invaluable snapshot of the county of Shropshire, England, around 1856, giving the trades people and gentry of every the smallest villages, some general history etc. All the best, David, Rather damp England which is starting to freeze
