Edward Hoare explains why he thinks the original clerical subscription (the requirement for Church of England minister to agree to an extra set of beliefs) was not a good thing, originated from the state not the church etc. It was a pamphlet of its time as Parliament was considering changing things, and Hoare didn't want them going in the "wrong direction."
