The Norwich Directory [1783], by William Chase 62333 [Subtitle: or, Gentlemen and Tradesmen's Assistant] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/6/2/3/3/62333 ] [Files: 62333-0.txt; 62333-h.htm] For those wishing to know: the earliest known directory, giving the names of people and their addresses, for Norwich in Norfolk. It was so novel in Norwich at the time (1783) that many houses didn't have proper addresses, and William Chase, the author, offered to send somone around to paint house numbers for 3 or 6 pence each. All the best, David, Overcast, dampt and cold England
