The Sabbath and the Crystal Palace, by Anonymous 53934 [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/5/3/9/3/53934 ] [Files: 53934-0.txt; 53934-h.htm] For those wishing to know: After the world-famous 1851 Great Exhibition the "Crystal Palace" was relocated to near Sydenham in south London, and whilst it was being rebuilt the religious groups praised the interlectual stimulus it would give to the working classes. Their praise turned to horror when they realized that it would be open on Sunday afternoons, giving the multitudes who didn't go to church something to do - in particular it would provide amusement for the youth who were already trying to escape the Victorian Sabbath. This religious pamphlet (part of a long series) condemns the whole enterprise. All the best, David, England where it's getting cold with snow on the way
