Edward Hoare was invited to give this lecture to the Islington Protestant Association and as he was a leading evangelical Church of England Clergyman you can guess where he's coming from. He has clearly studied his topic though, although perhaps from the more negative sources. When the Islington Protestant Association published the lecture a newly-converted catholic wrote a series of letter to Hoare disputing this - I've transcribed that and will upload it shortly so there's some counter-point.
