Freehold Land Societies, by J. Ewing Ritchie 32807 [Subtitle: Their History, Present Position, and Claims] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/3/2/8/0/32807 ] [Files: 32807.txt; 32807-0.txt; 32807-h.htm] For those wishing to know: a short pamphlet on the Freehold Land Society movement. The movement sought to get working-class men to purchase plots of land which would not only then provide food for their families, but a good return when later sold on. The main point, however, was that by owning a small piece of land the working-class man was then entitled to vote for the M.P. It was a factor in breaking the landed-classes hold over parliament.
