It seems that Facebook has restricted a post from yesterday. I'm not sure which book triggered that, but the admin panel says that an admin challenged it and the challenge was rejected? Looking at our website, I'm betting that that the offending book was "My autobiography" by Benito Mussolini. As I understand it, gutenberg_new will be able to post books for a month. I suggest that our other accounts should alert users to the suspension (referring to the book be number, not with a link). Eric

Amazing. Do you see an escalation path in their system? I'd like to pursue if possible. If there is no way to escalate, we will publicize this event on our various channels. Thanks. I hope the marathon went well for you! On Mon, Nov 04, 2024 at 02:55:10PM -0500, Eric Hellman wrote:

Hi Greg and Eric, https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/74673 Yes, the post that Facebook deleted refers to ebook My Autobiography by Benito Mussolini. Yesterday, I had a Facebook popup saying the post was deleted because "It looks like an admin shared or sent symbols, praise of support of people and organizations we define as dangerous, or followed them." Facebook advised that "sharing or sending more things that go against our rules can cause: Reduction of your Page's distribution, Restrictions for Page admins, Removal of your Page." I was asked if I wanted to dispute this decision, so I selected Yes and almost immediately my dispute was rejected. Facebook has added two restrictions to our page: We can't change the Page's name before 3 November 2025 and we can't invite people to like the Page until 19 March 2025. We can further appeal the decision by Facebook and it is reviewed externally, by an Oversight board. As admins, we can view and appeal via the notification bell, see attachments. This is our second breach of Facebook's rules. Facebook deleted ebook Indianerleben: El gran Chaco (Südamerika) by Erland Nordenskiöld back in March 2024. https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/73205 Kind regards, Christine -----Original Message----- From: Greg Newby via socialmedia <socialmedia@lists.pglaf.org> Sent: Tuesday, 5 November 2024 9:04 AM To: Eric Hellman <eric@hellman.net> Cc: socialmedia@lists.pglaf.org Subject: [socialmedia] Re: Facebook new account restricted Amazing. Christine, Is the other Gutenberg main also affected? Or other pages you manage? I really am not surprised that 2 days before the US election, Facebook blocked a facscist tract. Personally, I am blocked from posting on two other pages that I manage unrelated to PG for a month. I can't use groups today. Which is more than annoying. If we want to continue posting to Facebook, we need to have a system to flag possibly Facebook-sensitive material. Eric

Hi Eric, I'm not an admin for the main Gutenberg page, just a content moderator/editor. I haven't seen any information from Facebook (regarding the breaches) that refers to the main page. I don't admin any other pages and Facebook hasn't restricted my personal profile in any way. However, Facebook has advised they can/may limit personal profile pages if business pages are non-compliant. Eric, I have seen your name as responsible for the New PG books autofeed posts. It would be good if we can flag content that may not meet Facebook's expectations before it's posted. https://www.facebook.com/help/1735443093393986/?helpref=hc_fnav This link is an overview of Facebook's policies. Greg, you were an admin on New PG Books page, but you aren't now. Did you remove yourself? Please let me know if I should restore your access. Thanks for this summary. I agree with Eric that the ban has some reasonable justification. I think we can let this lie until the ban expires. It's not realistic for us to self-police for things that might offend. I noted this book when it was posted, and didn't think anything of it. If there are others who might be able to help avoid tripping alarms, that would be welcome to consider. ~ Greg On Tue, Nov 05, 2024 at 09:48:23AM +1100, Christine Bell wrote:

we could add a "facebook-no-post" flag to the json metadata file.
