Fwd: Site problem with registration barrier
I heard back from John at the self-publishing site. He said that the login screen is a temporary measure, because they have had a bunch of cyberattacks and this is their temporary mitigation. - Greg On Thu, May 07, 2020 at 07:19:45AM -0700, Greg Newby wrote:
FYI (I heard about some of the Facebook complaints):

Hi, John.
We have been fielding complaints to Project Gutenberg about http://self.gutenberg.org
There is a pop-up that requires having an elibrary card to get access to the contents. This didn't used to be the case. Verified with Firefox and Chrome.
Confused readers think they are being blocked from the PG collection, and getting rather indignant about it.
Would you please consider removing the pop-up?
Thanks, Greg
