For those wishing to know: Leland lived in Florence for some time and 
through his interest in Etruscan-Roman remains came across a lot of 
stories kept by the local witches.  Most involve an incantation which is 
the point of the story, the legends often being a bit "thin."  Possibly 
the most surprising one is about Cain and his worshippers - which turns 
the biblical account someone on its head!
