For those wishing to know: Rev. William Baird, vicar of nearby Homerton 
(London), gave this talk on 17th November 1870.  It puts forward why the 
laity should be involved in the work of the Church of England - a pressing 
topic then as the population explosion within London and the surrounding 
areas had left the church unable to cope using only paid clergy.
