'Cranworth', author of the foreword, is probably Bertram Francis Gurdon, 
2nd Baron Cranworth. He'd be of the right age, and has a known connection 
with East Africa: wrote 'A Colony in the Making: Or, Sport and Profit in 
British East Africa'.
