Acts of 30th & 43th Geo. III. relating to ... Hans Town 62016 [Title: Acts of 30th & 43th Geo. III. relating to a district in the Parish of Saint Luke, Chelsea, called Hans Town] [Author: Anonymous] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/6/2/0/1/62016 ] [Files: 62016-0.txt; 62016-h.htm] For those wishing to know: back in 1803 (when this Act was made) there wasn't the legal infrastructure that is now everywhere, so if you were developing an area (in this case Hans Town which is western London) you needed to pay for and get an act of Parliament to organise it. It's a tedious read, but it's also interesting to see how it permits the developer to set fines, put people in jail, organise the street cleaning etc. All the best, David, Overcast England

A Sermon preached at Kensington Church, on June the 29th, 1794 62014 [Author: Rev. Joseph Phillimore] [Subtitle: after the Victory gained at Sea, June the 1st] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/6/2/0/1/62014 ] [Files: 62014-0.txt; 62014-h.htm] For those wishing to know: On 1st June 1794 England had a major navel victory against the French, and so most churches would preach sermons saying the nation should be thankful etc. Kensington was little developed at this period but was home to many of the upper classes, and royality, and so would especially mark the occasion. No doubt Rev. Phillimore's sermon was well-received so he had a it printed. All the best, David, England, warm but overcast
