For those wishing to know: (on a personal note) I bought this by mistake
at a bookfair, thinking it was about Hammersmith church, but I'm very glad
I did because it turns out to be a very interesting little pamphlet.
George Gilbert Scott was an architect who lived next to St. John's church,
Hampstead, who disagreed with a proposed "restoration" of the church which
would see the demolition of the tower, which was thought to be in a
dangerous state. George's father had surveyed the tower decades before
and pointed out why cracks had appeared, had predicted the rate of decay
etc., and said there was not an on-going problem, which George
re-explained, together with the survey he'd carried out. The reason for
the cracking was obvious once explained, but came as a surprise to me.

All the best,
David,
Sunny England with clear blue skies
