For those wishing to know: in 1854 George Borrow and his family heard "one 
of the best sermons we had ever heard" - it was given by the author of 
this book.  James Slade had a major reputation for preaching and was on 
the staff of Chester Cathdral for decades.  The sermons are quite brief 
and strongly evangelical.
