For those wishing to know: by 1872 a branch museum of the South Kensington
Musuem (which had come out of the Great Exhibition) had been formed at
Bethnal Green in east London. Some of the collections from South
Kensington were sent to Bethnal and the "food collection", which was a
very popular collection, was the main draw. This is a pamphlet by the
Bethnal Green museum (Cole was Director so I've credited him) for visitors
to purchase and guide them around. It also relates how Bethnal came
about, and very useful small details (such as local schools could pay a
pound a have access to all pupils for all the year on some days of the
week.) It seeks to help the working classes understand the importance of
diet etc.

All the best,
David,
Cold and damp England
